Hi, I’m Shannon.
I am the therapist, astrologer, and community builder behind Nostoura. I’m so happy you’re here.
About my work
No matter what kind of services you’re seeking, my goal is to create a space of exploration and curiosity. In his book The Soul’s Code, James Hillman posits the idea that like an acorn is born with everything it will ever need to become an oak tree, we, too, are both with everything we need to live a meaningful life that is uniquely ours. So often, however, we’re taken off track from our inner knowing. As a therapist and astrologer, I aim to provide the space for you to return to this inner knowing.
A large part of my practice is in identifying themes and patterns in your life, both through the therapy process and through the wisdom of the birth chart. Understanding patterns is the first step to uprooting them and making more conscious, liberated decisions.
In my practice and my life, I hold dedication and devotion to the idea of liberation — whether from systems of oppression or from inherited patterns that no longer serve us. I am LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and neurodiversity affirming. I am working consistently toward decolonization, both through systems and institutions and within myself, with the knowledge that this is a lifelong journey and practice.
My journey here
I am a white, queer, cisgender woman, raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, on the ancestral land of the Ojibwe, Ottawa, Potawatami, and Wyandot nations. I currently live and practice in Denver, Colorado, on the ancestral land of the Cheyenne, Araphao, and Ute nations. Spiritually, I am drawn to several mysticism traditions, particularly Christian mysticism, yoga philosophy, and classical tantra. Core to my belief system is an animistic worldview that emphasizes the spirit and soul within all living and non-living things, and living in relationship with the world around us.
I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) in the state of Colorado, having graduated from the University of Denver with a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Concentration. After obtaining my Master’s, I enrolled in the Doctoral program in Counseling Psychology at the University of Denver, where I am currently studying in addition to my clinical work. Through my doctoral work, I have aspirations of teaching, supervising, and doing research on embodiment, chronic illness, and spirituality.
As an astrologer, I am trained in ancient Hellenistic astrology through the Nightlight Astrology School, taught by Adam Elenbaas. I have completed and am certified in both Year 1 and Year 2 of his courses, engaging in yearlong study for each and completing a final test to obtain certification. My astrology study is rooted in ancient text and astrological foundations. Aside from my formal studies, I have been strongly influenced by the work of Chris Brennan, Austin Coppock, Renn Butler, and Kira Ryberg, as well as my relationships with the planets themselves.
Prior to becoming a therapist and an astrologer, I worked as a management consultant at Deloitte and Accenture, where I supported corporate and governmental organizations transitioning through change.
In addition to my studies in Psychology and Astrology, I have completed yoga teacher training through Bhakti Yoga DC and am currently taking an herbalism course through Skyhouse Herbs with Ashley Elenbaas.
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
